I got most of my loan documents today. Most of the papers are pretty straight forward, but there are a few that I used one of my life lines. Thank god for a buyers agent. I did catch a small error by the broker and I’m very thankful for all those years in the service where we had to be very anal retentive on paperwork.
I also made a phone call to a couple companies today. Since I have no credit file, I have to prove I pay my bills on time. I found my car insurance agency(Progressive) very cooperative. I got the feeling they have done this before many times. They will be sending my broker length of service with them and payment history. My cell phone company was difficult to work with. (Verizon) They were unwilling to send any documentation to my broker or anything stating I had been with them for over three years and paid every bill on time. It’s kind of frustrating to go from one vender that appears to value you as a customer and another that doesn’t. Btw, I don’t intend to plug or discredit any companies, but maybe my experiences with a company can help you make a similar decision down the road. I’ll simply state my experience and you decide for yourself.
On a positive note, I killed two birds with one stone when I talked to my insurance provider. They are offering me a discount on home owners insurance because I already have car insurance with them. 17% discount is not bad. I still need to shop around, but at least I now have a baseline to go from. Insurance is required by the lender before I close. Its also cheaper then I was estimating. Not by much mind you, but it should help compensate for increased car insurance.
Hopefully in the next few days, I’ll have some more good news about my property.
On a side note, I learned a valuable lesson in blogging tonight. Save early, save often. I should have known that from the good old Nintendo days.
