After nearly three weeks of trying different methods for postcards, I finally tackled the postcard beast. I tried word 2003, a mail list client, and Microsoft publisher 2007, with no success. I even had the assistance of Microsoft on the phone and shared desktop and they could not get the postcards to work.
The problem I had was the mail merge print on one side did not match the mail merge on the reverse. I went through nearly 30 sheets of plain paper trying different variations. Nothing worked. Finally tonight I threw up my hands and said to heck with publisher and got it to work via word 2007 in less then an hour.
I shrunk the page size down to postcard size, then I had to create a custom print document for postcard size. I still cannot print 2 sides automatically, but it will allow me to print two sided manually. I simply grab the stack and put it back into the feeder. No time lost at all.
20+ hours of spinning wheels to finally tackle this monster. I think my fiance thought I was a bit crazy when she heard the woohoo on the other side of the house. I just want to give a shout out to the fine folks at Coke-a-cola for their coma inducing sugar highs, Scott for making me dislike the taste of his dust, and the fine folks at Microsoft for providing me the need to buy a new hat to cover this now bald head. Without them this great feat in my little world would not have been possible.
LOL! Too funny….but seriously…next time consider Click2mail.com. Keep truckin, my friend.
Honestly, I tried click2mail, but the perfectionist got the better of me. I just didn’t like how it turned out. Its about the same cost either way. The truck is always moving forward.
way to stick with it Jason. I’ve been there with computers many many many times, but i will say that is the reason I’m pretty good with them these days. I stuck with it and finally figured it out. good trait to have.
I will say Click2Mail and printing them out yourself may cost about the same in money, but costs MUCH less in time. I wouldn’t worry to much about how perfect the postcard looks. The one I sent out could not have been more plain.
I may upload the postcard I made to click2mail on a later date. I enjoy competition, this little challenge has kept me motivated. Best part, we both win in the end.
